ABOUT US

Ability Focused started as a collaboration between  John De Giusti and the parents of the participants with which he has had the opportunity to get to know over their many years of support in numerous organisational roles. Over time, John consistently proved to parents and participants that their needs and concerns took precedent over any organisational politics and outmoded procedures. Parents directly consulted with John as their primary and trusted source of information regarding their childs wellbeing. The parents began to see positive changes in their childs learning, self identity development and personal growth, which they percieved to be directly linked to, be it through Johns unique and personalised. We focus on being active and engaged partners in their childs wellbeing and develoopment. Plus we were always willing to link them to a community of pro-active participants and providers which could benefit their children. Over time our community began to grow; consisting of participants, parents and ourselves. During many social and informal meetings with parents, a new type of  boutique support model was being created.

We strive to maintain a high standard of support and liaise with parents and participants directly and tailor our programs to suit the individual needs of each person we assist. Plus we make sure that we match our group with other participants based on similar support needs, cognitive functioning, intellect and demeanour. This ensures that no member of our groups feels "different" or isolated. Most of our participants have low to moderate support requirements. That is not because we cherry pick, but this is the groups with which we have the most experience with. This group began with around 15 families of children with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and highly intelligent members of people on the Autism Spectrum, who wanted their children to feel inclusive in any group they are a part of. So we are here to maintain their wishes.

Our goal is to remain small, that way you can communicate directly with us. We make sure that each group programs we provide match each participants with others of similar skills and abilities.

Our programs, weekend activites and holidays aim to promote positive personal development, learning, self confidence, individual goal fulfilment, healthy lifestyle and fitness and positive group interaction.

And they are heaps of fun!

Most importantly, this is more than a job to us. This is a fulfilment of our lifes purpose. We truly love our job. You can see it by the way we engage and interact with each participant as well as take the time to create tailor made Innovative Community Participation programs that are based on individual needs and goals.

We also have many families and participants of our original 15 who are available to provide references and reviews of our services should you require that extra assurance.

Please write to us at info@abilityfocused.com should you require references or advice or to arrange an initial no obligtion face to face meeting.

Testimonials

we are very happy that we chose John to support a young man who was on holiday in Sydney. His support was insightful, and he has very good skills in helping to manage high anxiety and outbursts of frustration. John communicated with me and others in the mans life regularly, made himself available when needed, answered all of our questions and showed great initiative. i highly recommend him, particularly for people who have complex behaviour support needs.

Our son went to the Australian Reptile Park with John and came home a very happy boy. Our son does not speak so it was great being able to watch the video and see photos taken on the day which show our son smiling and enjoying patting all the animals and reptiles. We always thought he was scared of animals until we saw the video and photos. John is very caring and great with the kids.
